Hi Academia,

What a lot of crowds gathered in a Mall in Jakarta recently hunting for night promotional events. What I am thinking of as Airlines / transportation professional and Enthusiast on such crowds within a building are on safety not how much discounts we can get from the event.

There are several incidents that could potentially happen at a promotional event with a large crowd in a mall. Some examples including Crowd crush whereby it happens when too many people try to enter or exit an area at the same time, and the pressure of the crowd becomes too great. This can result in injuries or even fatalities. For example, in 2010, a promotional event for a new Air Jordan sneaker release at a mall in Indianapolis led to a crowd crush that injured several people.

Another unfavorable things could be on Theft or robbery. Large crowds can also be a target for thieves or robbers. This could have happened so often even everywhere. In the US there was a promotional event at a mall in San Diego was interrupted by a robbery in which the robbers stole jewelry from a store.

Medical emergencies could be things occasionally occur with a large crowd of people involved. there is always the possibility of medical emergencies, such as heart attacks, seizures, or fainting. For example, in many promotional events there were interruption by a medical emergency incident when a woman fainted in the crowd.

Large crowds can be at risk in the event of a fire or other disaster. For example, in 2018, a promotional event at a mall in Davao City, Philippines was interrupted by a fire that broke out in a nearby building, causing panic and chaos among the crowd.

Even in Big scale, large crowds can trigger Violence or terrorism: Unfortunately, large crowds can also be a target for violence or terrorism. For example, in 2016, a promotional event at a mall in Munich, Germany was interrupted by a shooting that left several people dead and many injured.

It is important for building management to plan for these potential incidents and have safety measures in place to prevent them from happening, or to respond quickly and effectively in the event that they do occur.

As an Airlines / Transportation Professional and enthusiast whom are so concern on safety When planning a promotional event with a large crowd, building management should consider implementing many safety measures:

  1. Emergency evacuation plan: A detailed evacuation plan should be in place in case of an emergency. This should include designated exits and assembly points, along with clear instructions on how to evacuate the building. Building management should also ensure that all attendees are aware of the evacuation plan.
  2. Crowd control: Building management should have a plan for managing crowds to prevent overcrowding and ensure the safety of all attendees. This may include setting up barriers, controlling access points, and managing entry and exit flow.
  3. Security personnel: Security personnel should be present to monitor the event and address any safety concerns that arise. Building management should ensure that there are enough security personnel to handle the size of the crowd.
  4. Medical services: Building management should have medical personnel on standby to handle any medical emergencies. There should also be first aid kits and AEDs (automated external defibrillators) available on site.
  5. Communication plan: Building management should have a plan for communicating with attendees in case of an emergency. This may include announcements over loudspeakers, text messages, or social media updates.
  6. Fire safety: Building management should ensure that all fire safety equipment, such as smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, are in working order. They should also have a plan for evacuating the building in case of a fire.
  7.  Weather preparedness: Building management should have a plan in place for dealing with inclement weather, such as lightning, heavy rain, or strong winds.

By implementing these safety measures, building management can help ensure the safety of all attendees at a promotional event with a large crowd.

Stay Safe wherever you are
