Selamat Hari Kartini

RA Kartini was a prominent Indonesian heroine who is celebrated for her contributions to humanity, education, equality, and liberty. She was a pioneer for women’s rights and education, and her life and legacy continue to inspire people around the world. Kartini’s father believed in the importance of education and equality, and these values were instilled in her from a young age.

Despite her privileged upbringing, Kartini was aware of the oppressive traditions that existed in her society, particularly those that affected women. She opposed the practice of polygamy, which was common among Javanese nobility, and believed that women should have the right to choose their own husbands. Kartini also fought against the tradition of seclusion, or “purdah,” which required women to stay at home and not interact with men outside of their family.  To support her beliefs, Kartini established a school for girls in her home village, which was one of the first of its kind in Indonesia.
