Hi Academias,

There is viral video showing Passengers discomfort due to in flight temperature during flight.

( disclaimer ) This article is not meant for concluding / leading the opinion of root cause of in any aircraft but only giving general overview if similar case to happen in aviation Industry.

Air travel has become an integral part of our lives. We fly for various reasons such as work, vacation, or to visit loved ones. However, just like any modes of transportation, air travel can come with its own set of problems. One such problem that passengers may encounter is an issue with the flight air conditioning system. This problem can result in discomfort, especially during long flights. While airlines strive to maintain their planes in top-notch condition, air conditioning malfunctions can occur. In the event of an air conditioning malfunction, passengers are encouraged to notify a flight attendant immediately.

This will allow the crew to investigate and fix the problem, or take necessary steps such as reassigning seats or providing fans if available to alleviate discomfort. It is important to note that air conditioning malfunctions are not common, and the safety of passengers remains a top priority for airlines. However, in the rare event of an air conditioning malfunction causing a significant safety concern, the airline may opt to delay or cancel the flight until the issue is resolved.

Delay and cancel flight also disrupt passengers conforts.

Yes.. Precisely and Any Airline has good Customer retention anticipated and plans initiated to ensure positive impact on any situation including Flight disruption / delays or even AOG (Aircraft on the Ground).

Airlines staffs as well as crew members have mostly been well trained on Delay Handling. They noted the importance of information conveyed to Passengers, like information of

  • Cause of delay
  • Length of delay (if known) anticipated
  • Provisional departure time
  • Options that are available
  • Hotel arrangements
  • Transport arrangements
  • Transfer options – to other flights- outlets
  • Local procedures
  •  Etc

Those above are much better option rather than continuing flight but jeopardizing Passengers / Crews’ safety due to specific issues.

To those whom have been affected, i think ; in order to show a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused. no matter low cost or full-service carriers, it should be of good if they are to be compensated as per the compensation schemes like providing free vouchers due to their unpleasent experiences during their respective flight. As part of the Customer Service Proposition passengers will be allowed to utilize the voucher for travel on another days / flight schedule or even within group airlines.

For instance, some airlines are associated into group of One world whose members are comprising of many airlines. To retain the customers, passengers whom been compensated with vouchers are allowable to utilize the voucher within the Airlines group.

Air conditioning relating incident as cited from The Aviation Heralld occurred in this United Boeing 747-400, registration N121UA performing flight UA-59 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to San Francisco,CA (USA), was taxiing for departure when the temperature on board became so hot that a number of passengers fainted prompting the crew to return to the gate. A large number of ambulances was dispatched to the gate and attended to the affected passengers.

The flight was cancelled.

Airport police reported due to the failure of the air conditioning system it became very hot on board of the aircraft, a number of passengers suffered circulatory failures and needed medical attention.
